Hauntie Privacy Policy
Hauntie (“the app”) is a story game made by Gadam Magtymov, who publishes as Point 13 (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the Android app collects, why, who helps us handle it, and how you can have it deleted. If you have any question, write to gadam@point13.games.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number or photos.
- The app shows no ads, sells nothing, and does not track you across other apps or websites.
- To improve the game, the app sends anonymous usage data and crash reports, linked only to a random ID created on your device.
- Settings → Delete My Data erases your progress on your device and asks us to delete your usage data within 30 days.
What stays on your device
Your progress in each case, your story ratings and the last case you opened are saved only on your device. We do not receive them, except as described under “Usage data” below. Uninstalling the app, or using Delete My Data, removes them.
Usage data
When you use Hauntie, the app records events such as:
- opening the app and how long a session lasts;
- starting, finishing or replaying a case, and whether each answer you submit is right or wrong (never the text you type);
- your story rating and the tags you choose for a case;
- when the app asks Google Play to show its rating prompt;
- repeated taps on the same spot, which can show that something on screen is confusing (only the position of the taps, never what was on screen).
Each event comes with technical details, such as the app version, the device maker and model, the Android version, the screen size and the language. We do not collect your location, and your IP address is not stored.
All of this is linked only to a random ID created by the app. It is not linked to your name, Google account, email address, advertising ID or any other identifier, and it is not combined with data from other apps or websites.
We use usage data to understand which stories work, where players get stuck and what to improve.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, it sends a short technical report. A crash report contains the place in the app’s code where the problem happened, the app version, the device model and the Android version, linked to the same random ID. We use it only to fix bugs.
The map
The Map tab shows the places where the stories happen. Its map images are loaded from OpenFreeMap, which receives the requests needed to show them, including your IP address, under its own terms. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap. Hauntie does not ask for, or use, your location.
Ratings on Google Play
After you finish your first case, the app may ask Google Play to show its rating prompt. Google decides whether it appears, and your rating goes to Google Play, not to us.
Who helps us
We use these service providers, who process data on our behalf and only for the purposes above:
- PostHog (PostHog Inc.): usage data, crash reports and story ratings. Data is stored on PostHog’s EU servers. PostHog privacy policy.
- OpenFreeMap: map images for the Map tab. openfreemap.org.
- Google: app distribution and the rating prompt through Google Play. Google privacy policy.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or give it to anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
Data sent outside your country
PostHog stores Hauntie’s usage data and crash reports in the European Union. Google and OpenFreeMap may process data in other countries. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, it is protected by safeguards recognised by law, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Why we can use this data
If data protection laws such as the GDPR apply to you, we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it.
No automated decisions
We do not use your data to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not build profiles of you.
How long we keep it
Usage data and crash reports are kept for up to one year, then deleted automatically. Data you ask us to delete is removed sooner, as described below.
Deleting your data
In the app, open Settings → Delete My Data. This immediately erases your progress and story ratings on your device, sends us a request to delete the usage data and crash reports linked to your random ID, and gives the app a new random ID that is not linked to the old one. We delete the data from the request within 30 days.
You can also write to gadam@point13.games. Because the data is anonymous, using Delete My Data in the app is the most reliable way for us to find the data that belongs to you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the data we hold about you;
- have it corrected if it is wrong;
- have it deleted;
- restrict how we use it;
- object to how we use it;
- receive it in a portable format;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
Write to gadam@point13.games and we will reply within 30 days. Because the data is anonymous, we may need you to use Delete My Data, or tell us details from the app, to find the data that belongs to you.
Keeping data safe
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored by our providers on secured servers with restricted access. We collect as little as we need, and none of it identifies you by name. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
Children
Hauntie is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, write to us or use Delete My Data, and we will delete the data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, for example by adding ads, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
